At Santa Mónica Suites Hotel, we believe that sustainability and comfort go hand in hand. That’s why we have improved our pool towel policy, with the aim of protecting our unique surroundings —the Maspalomas Dunes— while reducing our impact on the planet.
Why this change?
Constantly changing pool towels, sometimes even several times a day, multiplies laundry cycles and has a strong environmental impact:
- Water: in 2023 we consumed 37,736 m³ of water. By reducing unnecessary washes, we can save thousands of liters every year, the equivalent of filling several Olympic swimming pools.
- Energy and emissions: industrial laundry increased our total emissions to 247,117 kg of CO₂e
With this new policy, we can avoid emissions comparable to a car driving over 200,000 km —that’s about 5 times around the Earth! - Chemicals: in 2023 alone, we used over 86,000 liters of detergents and softeners.
Cutting down on chemicals helps protect the flora and fauna of the Maspalomas Dunes. - Textile waste: frequent washing wears towels out prematurely.
With this measure, we extend their lifespan and avoid discarding hundreds of units every year.
Our new policy from May, 1st, 2026
- Pool towel changes included depending on the length of stay
- Additional changes available: if you require extra towels, they can be requested for a small additional charge. All proceeds will be donated to organisations supporting the conservation of the Scopoli’s shearwater, an emblematic seabird of the Canary Islands whose population is affected by human activity.
This way, we guarantee your comfort while promoting more conscious use of resources.
